It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and is filled with buildings showcasing stunning and lively colors. But why are they so colorful? Legend has it that in the 19th century, the Dutch Governor-General Albert Kikkert would get terrible headaches because of the sunlight reflecting off the white buildings that were prevalent back then. To solve this issue, he decided to paint all the buildings in vibrant colors.
