Unlike many ancient temples on this list, the White Temple is a relatively new addition, opening its doors in 1997. It was created by visual artist Chalermchai Kositpipat and has a unique and fantastical appearance. The temple is made of white plaster and glass, symbolizing the purity and wisdom of the Buddha. It looks like something you would see in a magical movie!
Taung Kalat Monastery, Myanmar
Perched on the dormant volcano Mount Popa, this monastery was constructed in the 1800s and reaching it requires good physical fitness. Climbing almost 800 steps is necessary to reach the top! From there, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking views of Bagan, as well as the opportunity to explore the various Nat temples and relics scattered around the area.
